Presidents Message

Hi folks, its springtime in the Okanagan and time to get some air under our wings and enjoy the weather. The picture on the left shows me with a model of my Piper Cherokee Arrow C-FYGG, and this will be my second summer flying it.

Thank you for electing me as president of the Kelowna Flying Club – not that there was a record number of candidates – and letting me have the fun of working with the other directors and yourselves.

Thanks to Ray Young and Robert Davis we have an up to date calendar of events in the Okanagan, including our own. To find out what is happening click on ‘’calendar’’ and scroll through the months.

Our own events include a COPA for Kids day on Saturday, June 12, during which we will fly up to 75 youngsters from around the valley ranging in age from 7 to 17. This is an even sponsored by the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association to promote interest in flying among our youth. This will again be organized by Rupert Gruen, and everyone agrees that last year’s event was a great success. Rupert needs many volunteers to fly the kids and manage things on the ground, so please set the day aside for COPA for Kids.

Other highlights of the summer include barbeques at the club house prior to the general meetings on the first Tuesday of each month and the following:

Sunday, Sept 12           KFC fly in Breakfast

I hope you enjoy your time in the air. This summer I plan to fly around Vancouver Island and see friends, and also visit the Queen Charlottes / Haida Gwaii and other places in the west.
